New Scream confirms fan-favourite character Kirby is still alive in that universe

January 18th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Franchises like Scream always have a variety of characters that become ‘fan favourites’ for various reasons.

from the first movie Stu and Randy are still THE fan favourites from the franchise, Scream 2 had Mickey, Scream 3 had, em, well, we’re sure there are some popular characters in there and Scream 4 had Kirby.

Played by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere, Kirby is the fourth movie’s Randy Meeks, a movie fan who knows the rules of a horror franchise who is funny, bad-ass and smart as hell… but she still gets stabbed in the final act.

However, fans noticed at the time that she was still alive after being stabbed as she clearly moved before Ghostface left her [we know it wasn’t, technically, Ghostface at the time] and on the movie’s Director’s Commentary, Wes Craven confirmed that he let the camera linger so fans knew she was still alive.

Now, we also have heard that in an as-yet-unreleased interview, writer Kevin Williamson said that in his Scream 5, had it been made (and it sounds amazing), Kirby was, sorry fans, dead.

However, the fifth movie is now in cinemas and it’s not penned by Williamson so, as the tagline for the third movie said, all bets are off and this seems no more applicable than when it comes to Kirby.

In one scene in the new movie, one of the characters are watching YouTube, below, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted a very cool little Easter Egg that confirms that Kirby is, indeed, alive and well in the Scream universe:

Yes, the clip says: Interview with Woodsboro Survivor, Kirby Reed! confirming that, yes, Kirby is alive.

This is a very fun little Easter Egg for fans and also means that we may see Kirby back in a future instalment as many fans believed we would with this new movie and, i suppose, technically, we have.

Honestly, this is the type of movie content that makes us fans of franchises… spotting these little nods to past movies, setting up potential future events and all that good jive, is exactly why we’re fans of franchises like Scream in the first place.

What say you all? Are you glad Kirby is back? Do you even know who she is? Let us know all your thoughts on this one, guys,

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.
