Disney has released a new synopsis for its new Pirates of the Carribean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The film is the fifth instalment of the series and sees returning actors Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as William Turner, Geoffery Rush as Barbosa and Kevin McNalley as Mr Gibbs. These will be joined by newcomer to the series Javier Bardem who is playing pirate Captain Salazar.

The film is being co-directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg

The plot summary is as follows:

The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack.

Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy.

At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.

The synopsis says nothing about Rush’s character or the characters of Bloom and McKalley. We do know a little bit about Bardem’s character though thanks to this synopsis and the recent trailer that was released. It seems he shares similar attributes to the dead pirates under Davey Jones from the second and third film of the series. What this means for the film though is unclear.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be released on 26th May this year.
