With the (albeit brief) new footage on the Korean Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer at the weekend (here), we reckon many people assumed there’d be more  new footage at Disney’s D23 Expo this weekend. Well, JJ says it ain’t so.

The director of the movie, JJ Abrams, has gone on record as saying there’ll be no new footage as they don’t want to rush things: “We are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise.

“In the fall, there’ll be a trailer…We’re thrilled to go to D23 and meet the fans, but it’s a tricky thing to try and rush [footage] for a convention or preexisting event that would, of course, be fun to show something at.”

He went on to say that the movie is coming along nicely right now: “I’m still editing and we’re working on refining the cut, but it’s incredibly fun to see the movie  come together. You realize certain things that you don’t need, certain things you can pull out.”

But what about Rogue One, then?! Seriously, we reckon it’s still possible that we’ll see images, posters or other goodies at the event but if JJ says no, then we reckon it’s on the money at this stage.

Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
