Paramount ‘not planning’ another Naked Gun

Full disclosure, I thought the new Naked Gun movie was a big of a disappointment but I love Neeson in that role and I was onboard for another movie in the series and, given that it performed pretty well and reviews were very kind, that seemed inevitable.

Inevitable until, that is, Skydance bought over Paramount, the studio that put The Naked Gun into the world.

“We are not planning another,” director Akiva Schaffer said recently at the Critics Choice Awards, “I don’t know if you heard about Paramount kind of changed owners. It was maybe something. It was about seven days after the movie came out, and so, you know, we’re waiting to hear from see if they would want it.”

So, no longer inevitable but still possible? “So Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote the script with me, they do have a list of gags,” Scaffer went on, speaking about ideas for a sequel. Producer Erica Huggins added to this, saying, “We have a big idea that we had talked about.” To this, Schaffer agreed, adding: “Yeah, we’ve got a few.”

It does seem that, despite being negative about it, The Naked Gun series isn’t dead in the water but rather just hanging in limbo, production hell, if you will, so it’s not impossible that at some stage in the future, we’ll see Frank Drebbin back in one form or another and when that happens, we’ll be there, hoping for a good laugh.

Thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
