Peter Jackson will not do a superhero movie… want to guess why?

I’ll not lie, his is a name that never even occurred to me when it comes to future directors in the Marvel (or DC) movie universe. But, inevitably, due to his nerdy position (in Middle Earth) it seems Peter Jackson is on people’s minds when it comes to the topics.

Now that he’s finished in Hobbit town – for now at least – it seems that Jackson will have a lighter schedule. But he’s certainly not keen to fill it with spandex and capes: “I don’t really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now. The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It’s become very franchise driven and superhero driven.

“I’ve never read a comic book in my life so I’m immediately at a disadvantage and I have no interest in that. So now it’s time for us to step back. We’re heading towards something of that scale.

“So, yes, I’m not going to head off and do a Marvel film. So if I don’t do a Marvel film, I don’t have any other choice — I’ve got to go make a small New Zealand movie!”

Wait, Peter Jackson doesn’t want to make a Marvel movie because they are franchise driven and effect heavy. Am I missing something? Can someone fact check that this is the same guy who made the SIX Lord of the Rings movies? And recently admitted he’d probably like to go back in a few years? Because I’m pretty sure he’s the same guy.

Anyway, I could rant, but I’m not going to. Well, not any more. I’m just glad there’s not too much special effects in LOTR movies (!).

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
