So they are remaking another classic. Sigh.
Yes, Poltergeist is getting the remake/reboot/rehash treatment and it seems like it will no longer be the scarefest you remember but rather aPG kids’ movie?
The movie is set to star one of FTN’s favourite actors, the one and only Sam Rockwell and he was chatting about the movie to Collider recently and he let the cat out of the bag a little about the new take on the Spielberg masterpiece: “The 10-year-old boy is really the protagonist this time. JoBeth Williams was the protagonist for the most part in the first one and now the kid, it’s really through his point-of-view. So it’s more of a kids’ movie. So I don’t know if it’s gonna be like rated-R scary.
“It’s not like Conjuring type of scary. It’s a different kind of movie. It’s more of an adventure. It’s essentially a child abduction film when you come down to it. I mean, the original Poltergeist is too.”
While we have nothing but faith in Rockwell, we’re a little bewildered by what we’ve heard… but the truth of the pudding and all that.
Poltergeist will arrive on July 24th and Starring alongside Rockwell will be Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Nicholas Braun. Gil Kenanis directing.
