Ray Winstone joins Point Break remake – plus minor plot details released

April 8th, 2014 by Marc Comments

The Point Break remake/reboot is motoring ahead and we’re still not impressed…

First off, Variety is reporting that Ray Winstone has joined the movie in the role of Papas, originally played to perfection by Gary Busey, partner of Luke Bracey’s Johnny utah (originally played by Keanu Reeves) – for those who are interested, it’s directed by Ericson Core and also stars Gerard Butler as Bodhi (who was originally played by Patrick Swayze).

We like Winstone, really we do, but seriously, Ray, WHY?!

In other news, Collider spoke to producer Broderick Johnson who said that filming has begun already: “We’ve actually been in photography on the film, beginning our stunt work with our real athletes. This is a movie with a lot of stunts and no stunt people in it because the stunts are way too dangerous for people who are stunt people.”

But will it be a retread of the original Kathryn Bigelow movie?: “The script only shares in common with the original the characters and the nature of the character dynamic between Utah and Bodhi and their relationship. Everything else about the movie is different. The narrative of the movie is different. While we do have surfing in the film, it is only a subset of the extreme sports that we deal with, including free-climbing, motocross, wing-suiting and so forth. The movie is being shot in 10 countries across the globe.”.

Point Break opens in July 2015.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
