Ready or Not writer keen to revisit that world

February 8th, 2022 by Marc Comments

One of my favourite movies of the last few years was 2019’s more-fun-than-it-should-be Ready or Not.

The horror/comedy/drama sees that amazing Samara Weaving playing a new bride who marries into a family who has a tradition that, on a family wedding night, they play a game and sometimes it has very deadly consequences. It’s honestly a cracking watch if you’ve not had the pleasure yet.

In fact, it was Ready or Not that had us at FTN HQ so excited for Scream [5] as it was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and both were written/co-produced by James Vanderbilt.

Now, while we know the whole gang are returning for a sixth Scream (here) – please, please, please get Samara Weaving to appear! – but it seems that Vanderbilt is also keen to revisit the world of Ready or Not too.

It seems that, despite Ready or Not being a very much one-and-done movie, Vanderbilt thinks there’s places it could go.

“I love that universe,” he says, “We all had such a blast making that movie and it was a tough movie to make and get made. Fox Searchlight really stood behind it, which was wonderful. But it is such a very specific tone and a lot of times with stuff that’s horror-comedy, you really have to convince people that you can ride that line and that it’s going to work. And so I feel like the movie was successful in doing that, and people really love it, it would be great to revisit that universe again. That would be super fun for me. Plus, I actually play the devil in it. So for me personally, I would be very excited to do it again.”

With the ending of the movie being one of cinema’s greatest WTF moments, I can think of a few ways it could go if they decided to bring Weaving back for a sequel but I also think that that world probably has a lot of other creepy and scary tales to tell… Ready or not shared universe, anyone?

Anyway, did you like the movie? Let me know what you thought on all the usual channels, folks…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
