REPORT: Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch is the new 007 in Bond 25

It looks like, for the first time in James Bond’s near 60 year history on the big screen, the 007 code will belong to someone else.

A new report from the upcoming 25th movie in the (official) timeline starring Daniel Craig will see Bond retired and living in Jamaica, with the 007 license to kill having been transferred over to Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch who played Maria Rambeau.

This ties into a story I reported a while back that said the new movie would see Bond’s misogynistic personality threatened by an unflappable female agent. The new details are who the agent is and who will play her.

For some time now there has been controversy over the role of Bond with Idris Elba being connected to the role and with many complaining that Elba shouldn’t play the role as Bond has always been a white male. Personally, I love Elba but didn’t want to see him in the role as historically, Bond has had a fairly racist and sexist genesis and I’d rather not see Elba connected with that – my suggestion was always introduce Elba as another Double-0 agent and then give us the spin-off – I’d watch the hell out of that.

And, essentially, that is what has happened here with London actress Lynch also being black, and most likely being set-up as a new character to continue the franchise.

I think her having the 007 number is an issue because it basically means that as long as she has it, Bond cannot step back into the role and, while I’m up for inch heading a spin series, I would like it to be the first step into a Bond universe, if you will.

“This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film,” the reports says.

“There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.”

Looks like Bond may – as feared – be succumbing to the agenda-driven nonsense that is ruining so many franchises. Let’s hope he can still prove that nobody does it better.
