Earlier in the week, we asked on Facebook for our followers to tell us the movies that they view as their ‘guilty pleasure’, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to comment on the post and share their opinions with us and now that results have been tabulated and independently verified by an international panel of accountants we have a breakdown of what you all said.
There were 218 individual comments (!) on the post and there was a wide variety of movies across many genres listed.
Special mentions go to the one person in the world who likes Tom Cruise’s Cocktail, also to the guy who thought that Shawshank Redemption was not universally loved (and the Lord Of The Rings movies are in there too! – Ed).
There were some lovely or obscure movies that only got one vote also such as Kabuki Man:NYPD, Zardoz, Tommy, my personal addition to the list was The Phantom, one person voted for the 1990s Teenage Ninja Turtles Movie which is excellent and still very much holds up (apart from some slightly racist undertones), The Toxic Avenger and Tromaville movies were mentioned by different people who both have good taste in schlocky horror movies.
The top guilty pleasures were both Star Wars movies with The Phantom Menace and The Last Jedi both getting six mentions each.
Next up with five mentions each were two old school Marvel movies: Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and the timeless classic that is Howard The Duck, also with five was the car crash that was the Super Mario Bros Movie but it nice to see it finally getting some love.
Honourable mentions go to Hudson Hawk and John Carter of Mars that both got three votes, UHF and The Cable Guy weigh in with three votes too while Waterworld, Tank Girl and Ghost Rider got two votes.
There was 105 movies that only got one mention and they are a wide and varied list of movies that includes Battlefield Earth, Bio-dome, Freddie Got Fingered, Ghostbusters(2016), Masters of the Universe, So…I Married and Axe Murderer, Surf Nazi’s Must Die, The Shadow and something called Werewolf Grannies which maybe the most interestingly named movie mentioned in the entire list and is going on my watch list.
