Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and Firefly character details from The Batman movie revealed?

June 13th, 2019 by Marc Comments

Following on from the news a few days back that Matt Reeves’ The Batman would feature several villains from the hero’s mythology, a new report claims to know who the main four will be.

So, without further ado, here’s who Batman will be facing off against in the upcoming trilogy.

First up, and apparently the leader of the gang, will be The Riddler AKA Edward Nygma, “a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve.”

Reeves is after a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 40.

Next up, the longest rumoured villain, The Penguin AKA Oswald Cobblepot, a “Gotham City mobster“ who is “a short, obese man with a long nose, and he uses high-tech umbrellas as weapons.”

Reeves wants to cast a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 40.

Thirdly, a character who has seen the big screen three times already, Catwoman AKA Selina Kyle, a “Gotham City burglar” who “wears a tight one piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon.”

Reeves wants an actress of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30 – the younger age may point to a relationship with Batman/Bruce Wayne.

And finally, a more left-field character, Garfield Lynns AKA Firefly, “a professional arsonist [who] “attempts to burn all the places that he lacked the privilege to go as an orphan child.”

This time Reeves is searching for a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30 – a younger actor again, suggesting that Penguin and Riddler will likely be more established villains in the movie than Catwoman or Firefly.

This is pretty exciting news and, given that we know it’s a trilogy, I have no real fear that the movie will be over-crowded as it’s likely each movie will focus – in my mind, anyway – on one villain, while Catwoman may be a constant throughout.

It’ll be exciting to see the adventures of a younger Batman in this universe and the promise of him being more of a detective than we’ve seen before is also pretty exciting.

Let me know your thoughts…

The Batman is currently set for a June 2021 release.
