Robert Pattinson finally talks about being… Batman

September 4th, 2019 by Marc Comments

Well, we all know that Robert Pattison has been cast in the DCEU’s The Batman as a younger Bruce Wayne/Batman picking up the mantle (yes, I stand by it) as a younger version of Ben Affleck’s incarnation of the character.

We know the movie is rumoured to be the first in a Batman trilogy and is written and directed by Planet of the Apes’ Matt Reeves. But the actor himself has kept pretty quiet about it so far.

Until now.

Speaking to Variety about his new movie The Lighthouse, the actor has finally opened up about playing the world’s greatest detective and hero (deal with it).

“It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff,” he says, “I put it on [the batsuit]. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does!!! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’”

On the suit and being dressed like Gotham\s greatest champion, the star said: “You do feel very powerful immediately, and it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’

“You’re trying to think of the way to balance, how to bring something new to it and not want to scare people off, and work in the confines of the costume.”

Pattinson has come a long way since his Harry Potter and Twilight days, becoming a solid actor and one who can certainly relay intensity… will he fill the role admirably? Well, here’s hoping.

Whatever happens, you can be sure FTN will be front of the queue.

Let me know your thoughts, guys.

The Lighthouse opens in cinemas on October 18th while The Batman returns in June 2021

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
