So, you’ll likely recall a couple of weeks back that the Scream community, of which we’re proud to be a part, was shocked to hear that the cornerstone of the franchise, Neve Campbell, Sydney Prescott in the series, was not coming back (here).
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on,” Campbell said at the time, “To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Obviously, as the one who started the whole series and who has been killing Ghostface ever since, Sydney is one of our favorite horror icons but the more we thought about it, the more we thought her not returning was a good idea.
Hayden Panettiere back as fan favourite Kirby in Scream 6!
The most recent movie gave her a nice send-off and we already learned that she was married to Det. Mark Kincaid, played by Patrick Dempsey in Scream 3, and they had two kids together. Her story, in many ways, was told and I was happy to see where the franchise when next.
However, over the last few days, we have heard a lot of rumours that Campbell has, in fact, reached an agreement with the makers of Scream 6 and she will appear in a small role but if and when Scream 7 happens, she will move back to centre stage.
Which has us thinking…
Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher is still alive in the Scream universe – here’s the evidence
For a long time there was a rumour that a previous Scream was to open with Sydney fighting Ghostface at the movie’s opening but before we found out if she died, the scene cut away, with her fate being left open for a long time. Could we see this happen here? Might we see the two fight with her fate held back until the seventh movie? Em, if so, I guess this is a spoiler… apologies.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Will we see her back for the next movie and the one after?
Let us know all your thoughts…
Yes, I’ve heard Neve Campbell will actually appear in SCREAM 6, but the bigger news is that the deal apparently calls for a much bigger role in SCREAM 7.
