Rupert Wyatt speaks a little about his departure from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

February 18th, 2013 by Marc Comments

While we all know that Cloverfield director Matt Reeves is looking after Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, we’ve heard very little about why Rupert Wyatt, director of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes stepped down. Until now…

Wyatt (above) seemed a cert to direct the sequel, given he took the first one and made it a hit that, let’s be honest, few – if any – predicted. However, there was genuine surprise when it was announced that the movie was moving forward with NO director. Matt Reeves soon signed on and, while we like Matt’s work, we did wonder…

Well, Wyatt, Speaking to What Culture, put it down to that old favourite: Creatice differnces: “I had a take on the sequel which didn’t marry with the studio’s. Regardless, I was hired to direct Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes against all odds, and I was given that opportunity by a studio and producers who were prepared to take a chance on me. For that I’m very grateful.”

Hmmmmm… we wonder what Wyatt and 20th Century Fox couldn’t see eye-to-eye on? But surely doing such a good job on the first movie should have bought him some say in the direction of the sequel? Seems not…

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is due for release on May 23rd, 2014.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
