It’s opening weekend for Scream 7 and, with it looking like it’s going to over-perform at the box-office, talk has already started about Scream 8.
Now, going back as far as May last year, the world was that the eighth movie was already in the early stages of production, although that seems to have been somewhat premature. Until Now.
Just this week, Variety reported that yes, the eighth movie was at planning stage already, writing: This [Scream 7] likely won’t be Ghostface’s final reign of terror. Insiders suggest plans are already in place for the killer’s lethal return in an eighth film. Tell the survivors to hide their families.
#FTN #Scream7 has a great opening and some superb Ghostface action but what good there is – and there is some very good – is almost, but not quite, undone by a very disappointing third act. It’s good but feels like a lot of wasted potential. 3/5 pic.twitter.com/JihMcDgeA8

Creator and director of Scream 7, Kevin Williamson, is now talking up the next installment in the franchise: “If this film [Scream 7] is successful and there’s an audience for it, you know we’ll make it because 1, I think the studio would like to make it, and 2, we the people who make these movies would love to make it because…they’re a blast to make and they’re so much fun.”
The big question is, will the movie have the staying power at the box office that it’s had in the pre-bookings? I’ve seen it and I’m a massive fan of the franchise, loving the original cast and the ‘core four’ both and, while Scream 7 has a lot of solid scenes, especially when it comes to Ghostface chases, it really (really) fumbles the reveal, meaning the movie could suffer in the long run, with many reviews not being kind so far.
Tidbit:
Kevin Williamson talks about his original plans for Scream 4, 5 and 6, confirming that Emma Roberts’ killer, Jill Roberts, was indeed meant to survive and go to college in Scream 5 where another Ghostface would start killing students and Jill, to protect her own identity would have to stop that happening, so a Ghostface V Ghostface scenario.
He also says that in his original plan, Dave Arqutte’s Dewey Riley would also have died.

As I said, I love the Scream franchise, and Scream 7 being a bit of a disappointment doesn’t change that at all. There’s no franchise that has seven movies as they all be solid, so I’m still rooting for the series, the cast and, most importantly, Ghostface.
Thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realised as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target.
