Scream VII films next year but is eighth movie already being developed?

I’ve been reporting a fair bit on the development of the seventh movie in my favourite horror franchise, Scream, and it seems we might soon be reporting on the eighth installment too.

According to scooper Daniel RPK, Kevin Williamson, creator of the franchise and director of Scream VII, is planning on the eighth movie already, in fact, I’m hearing that Williamson’s plan may actually be a trilogy based around Sidney Prescott.

“Stu is still alive…” Matthew Lillard prepping us for a Scream VII return?!

This got me thinking… for a long time, since Scream 3 way back in 2000, there was a plan to bring back Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher, one of the original two Ghostface killers in the first movie. The plan was to bring back Stu and have him running a killer group called The Cult of Ghostface from his prison cell, the plan being to exact revenge on Sidney and Gale Weathers, played by Courtney Cox, who is also back for the new movie.

So, could the new trilogy, if it happens, be a big, full-circle story that will see Stu return to wreak havoc on Sidney and her whole family; Sidney’s Husband and kids will be a part of the new movie too? I rather think it might.

The ninth movie could see an end to Sidney’s story, win, lose, or draw, setting up a whole new generation of characters. Plus, as far as I know, the plan is still to give fan-favourite Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed a spin-off movie of her own too… maybe the Cult of Ghostface will lead into that?

I love speculating about Scream, but I also look forward to seeing what comes next for myself.

Thoughts? Let me hear them, Nerds and Nerdettes…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
