SDCC 2022: More details on BRZRKR movie, anime and novel

July 23rd, 2022 by Marc Comments

While we already knew a BRZRKR movie and anime series were in the works (here), star/creator Keanu reeves took to SDCC 2022 to confirm it was happening and he was pretty excited about it.

We learned from Boom’s Stephen Christy that the anime was being developed by Japanese animation studio Production I.G. who also did Ghost in the Shell series and Eden of the East.

We also now know that two seasons of the anime are planned on Netflix and, while we don’t know how many episodes that will be, it looks like it will be a separate story from the movie – which will also star Reeves as B who’ll also voice the character in the anime.

Written by Reeves and Kindt and drawn by Ron Garney, BRZRKR chronicles the bloody life of B, an immortal demigod who’s spent 80,000 years honing his skills as a killer. In the modern era, B works as an agent of the US government, hoping to finally uncover a way of ending his unnaturally long life. Reeves is set to star in the live-action movie and voice B in the anime series.

Reeves also revealed he is developing a novel with a well known but undisclosed NY Times best selling author who can’t be named yet but Reeves is a fan of them and went specifically to them to write the novel: “We met in Berlin and it was really cool,” Reeves said. “They had read the comic and they enjoyed it and they had a lot of questions and they were open and a curious. This will be a collaboration. He’s been kind enough… oh, I said he, whoops…”

On the final issue of the comic, set to debut this September, Reeves said it will be a double-issue finale, saying: “Some stuff’s gonna happen with Caldwell.

“HQ is going to kind of get what they want. Things are going to get more difficult. BOOM! is giving us a double issue for issue #12. So it’s 48 pages and we’re really excited about where the story goes”

There was also a hint that we could get BRZRKR spinoff comics but no word on a sequel series after it wraps in September but with an anime, movie, possible spinoffs and novel, there’s plenty of world-building to look forward to.

BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, , cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

It is a 12-issue limited series published by Boom! Studios, with the first issue having launched on March 3rd, 2021.
