It looks like the DCU’s Sgt Rock movie starring Colin Farrell in the titular role is back on the cards.
The movie, which was set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes, was getting ready to film last year, was cancelled in May.
At the time, I reported that it was pushed back as it was unlikely to meet its summer filming date due to its abundance of exterior and real shooting locations. The movie was expected to be filmed for under $70m, so money was reportedly not an issue.
And now, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that the movie is back on and will film later this year.
This makes sense as the movie was never cancelled but rather postponed; however, Guadagnino may no longer be attached if this is true.
The Flash and Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson to write Batman: The Brave and the Bold
THR had previously reported: The story is said to involve Rock teaming with up with the female French Resistance fighter to find the mystical Spear of Destiny, the spear used to stab Jesus Christ during his crucifixion, which in lore is said to have supernatural properties. They race to obtain it before the Nazis get their hands on it.
Setting a movie during World War II in the DCU is a brave move and could be DCU’s answer to Captain America, with a bit of Indiana Jones thrown in for good measure.
Don’t forget that Farrell is already a DC man and is getting prepped to return as Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which is set to film this March.
