We did not see this coming… but we’re kinda tickled pink by it!

After all the speculation as to who would be cast as Earth’s mightiest mortal, Shazam! (The name is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury), we finally have Zachary Levi in the role.

Levi first entered the nerd universe as Chuck and then again in movies such as Tangled and Thor: The Dark World and now he’s moving into the spotlight as the only hero in the DC universe who can go toe-to-toe with Superman.

Zachary Levi is going to be Earth’s mightiest mortal.

The actor will star in the DC comic book adaptation Shazam!, which follows a boy named Billy Batson, who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word “Shazam!” The name is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, from which the big Batson derives his heroic attributes when in adult form.

Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is directing Shazam! for New Line from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke and production is currently set to begin in February 2018. We also know that villain Black Adam will be played by Dwayne Johnson.

We love Levy and imagine he’ll be bulking up for the role but as far as being a little boy trapped in the body of a near-god, he’s damned new perfect.

But, as always, we want to hear your opinions… so lay them on us.

Based on the DC Comics character “Shazam!” Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word “Shazam! The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.
