Shazam! movie close to signing a director?

February 20th, 2017 by Marc Comments

While we are all still trying to see the bright side after the news that Matt Reeves has stepped down from The Batman movie (there isn’t) we also have the news that the Shazam! movie is closing in on a director.

According to THR, Warners are talking with Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg about taking the gig.

Sandberg is best known for directing Lights Out and the upcoming Annabelle 2, so he has a firm footing in scary flicks, much like Aquaman director James Wan who was best know for Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring.

Shazam! is the story of young boy Billy Batson who becomes one of DC’s strongest heroes when he utters the magic word Shazam! (an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury).

Dwayne Johnson is already cast as the villain (well, anti-hero) Black Adam in the movie, though no word as yet on Shazam! or Billy’s casting.

What say you? Is Sandberg the man for the gig? Let us know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
