Everyone can relax; Evil Dead Burn HAS an appearance by the legendary Bruce Campbell… but you’ll need to be quick to notice it.
So, we all know that Campbell, left, starred as Ash Williams in the first three Evil Dead movies (and the Ash V Evil Dead), but when the series moved on with 2013’s Evil Dead from director Fede Alvarez, Campbell took a back seat.
But he was still in there, appearing after the credits and uttering “Groovy”.
Fans thought this was setting up Ash’s triumphant return in the next movie but, sadly, having waited ten years for 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, Ash didn’t return to carve up the deadite hoarde… but he was in the movie, with his voice being heard on a recording (“Destroy it! It’s called The Book of the Dead for a reason!”) in the apartment that later was confirmed by writer/director Lee Cronin to be Ash, meaning the series’ anti-hero was still out there doing his thing, albeit in a differend time period, with that story remaining to be told.
However, with director Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn currently traumatising audiences, fans were wondering if, while not starring in the movie, Campbell – or Ash – would appear, and yes, he’s in there.
In a new interview, star Souheila Yacoub confirms that he’s there to be seen – and so is Ash’s Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, which appeared in the first three Evil Dead movies.
As for Ash himself? Well…
On the staircase of the house in the movie, where most of the carnage takes place, there’s a picture of the man himself on the wall; it’s particularly noticeable when Maude Davey’s Polly is on her stairlift.

However, the image is NOT Ash Williams, but rather it’s the family’s grandfather, himself a character very much linked to the wider lore of the world of the Evil Dead (which I break down here).
Now, given that Ash has found himself thrown around through time, does this mean that Ash will somehow become this character? Will he end up, deliberately or otherwise, being present at the discovery of the book of the dead? I wouldn’t rule it out but honestly, I feel it’s more likely that this is just a cameo for Campbell himself, rather than the character of Ash Williams. But man, would I love to be proven wrong on this one!
And, given that we know next year’s Evil Dead Wrath will take place in the 70s, before the events of the first movie and featuring this new grandfather character, we’ll have our answer pretty soon.
I do love a bit of continuity and mystery in my franchises.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
