OK, while we didn’t exactly ‘like’ last year’s Robocop reboot, we did enjoy elements of it – Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman, mostly – and, if you can take it as ‘not robocop’ it’s not the worst movie in the world.
That said, we never really thought ‘we want a sequel’.
Well, now we might get one anyway.
The movie was a moderate hit in the US but performed really well in China and the UK, which, it seems, has convinced Sony that there may be life in the old Cyborg, yet.
According to DenOfGeek, they have a source at Sony and are reporting “it’s not a closed project at Sony , although it doesn’t appear to be one the studio is heavily pursuing. Nonetheless, we understand that it is still welcoming pitches for a further RoboCop venture. Our source confirmed that Sony hasn’t shut the project down, although it doesn’t appear to be a high priority.”
What do you all think? Would you like to see the return of the Joel Kinnaman Robocop? Or would you like to see the original Peter Weller movies getting the sequel they deserve? Or perhaps scrap it all and begin from the ground up? Whatever happens, it looks like it could be a chinese co-production… but what would that mean for the future of Robocop?
If we hear more, we’ll pass it along in the usual way, guys.
