SPOILERS: James Gunn revealed the last thing Groot said to Rocket in Avengers: Infinity War

May 7th, 2018 by Marc Comments

OK, so, look, if you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet then go away… you shouldn’t be here. Seriously… the end of this movie is massive and we don’t want to spoil it.

Good… so you’ve all see the movie? Cool.

So, at the end of the movie Thanos wins. He gets the Infinity Stones, pops them in the Gauntlet and… Click!

Half of all life dies. Just disappears into dust. Including half of the Marvel heroes. Doctor Strange, Star Lord, Bucky, Spider-man… Groot. Loads of them go.

But, as Groot goes, he looks at Rocket and says ‘I am Groot’. Now, obviously, despite the movies’ lore, Groot is not a language, so the audience doesn’t know what he says. But if one man does, it’s James Gunn, writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and 2 (and director of the Guardian scenes in Infinity War, fact fans).

And he was asked on Twitter (below) what Groot says before he, like so many others, turns into dust and vanishes. Well… he looks at Rocket and says ‘dad’.

Sniff.

Because, you know, that scene wasn’t enough of a kick in the feels.

Thanks, Mr Gunn. You broke us all at FTN HQ.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
