SPOILERS: New Ghostbusters statue hints at another returning character for Ghostbusters: Afterlife

So, while we’re all waiting patiently for Ghostbusters: Afterlife to drop in June after being twice delayed over that damned virus, we’re still trying to gleam any minor bit of information we can about the third instalment in the franchise.

And we may have just stumbled across a good one about a returning character to the series who was a big deal in the first two movies, the reboot and the animated shows.

I am, of course, talking about Slimer, the green ghost who became a part of the team as the franchised developed over the years.

The first ghoul the team caught then they visited the Sedgewick Hotel, Slimer escaped when Gozer destroyed the containment unit int he firehouse at the end of the first movie and became a friend of the team during The Real Ghostbusters animated series before popping up in the role in Ghostbusters II and now, it looks like he’s coming back for Afterlife too.

LMTreasures have created a new statue of the ghost for collectors (left) and on their site they have included the following description:

Slimer is a character from the Ghostbusters franchise. He appears in the films Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II (1989), Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and the remake Ghostbusters (2016), in the animated television series: The Real Ghostbusters, Slimer! and Extreme Ghostbusters, and in the video games Ghostbusters: The Video Game and Beeline’s Ghostbusters. Slimer was voiced by Ivan Reitman and Adam Ray in the films and by Frank Welker in the animated series. In The Real Ghostbusters, he is the Ghostbusters’ mascot and friend (unlike the films, where he is just a ghost who needs to be busted).

And in there, it confirms that he does appear in Afterlife.

But in what capacity? If I had to bet, I’d say he lives (?) at the Spengler farm that Egon owned among all the GB stuff such as the Proton Packs and Ecto-1… it sort of makes sense. It will also be nice to see him return because, to anyone who grew up with the franchise, that ugly little spud is as much a part fo the team as Janine or Louis.

Anyway, what say you all? Do you wish to see Slimer return? Let me know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
