With everyone waiting for Star Trek 3 – we are waiting for this, right? I mean, it’s not just us, is it? – it’s always one of the big announcements when we get close to a villain.

A villain, afterall, can make a piece brilliant or dire… and we certainly know that Idris Elba, who is apparently in talks for the role, has the acting chops and the menace to make make a superb foil for the crew of the USS Enterprise.

The rumour is that he would be a Klingon, leading on from the plot threads laid down in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

In other Trek 3 news, Simon Pegg has been chatting about his writing duties on the movie along with Doug Jung and how hard it is making the June deadline: “The timeframe we’re working in is extremely tight. It means we’re having to come up with the goods. We can’t be lazy about it,” he says.

“The production is hammering on the door asking ‘when can we build this? What are we gonna build? Who’s in it? It’s an interesting process.

“”I have to abide by certain rules and do right by the original series, and not be too post-modern with it and not be too aware of itself. I have to try to take on the spirit of the show, rather than fill it with stuff that people will just go ‘oh, yeah, that’s from episode something or other’. It’s more than that”.

He also said – and this should please some of the fans not happy with the last two movies somewhat – that they were asked to “go back to the drawing board , a little bit, with the screenplay” by producer Bryan Burk.

While many new fans loved the Abrams movies, many original fans weren’t impressed at all, we reckon if anyone can catch them all it’s Ash Ketchum. Sorry, bad joke, it’s Simon Pegg.

Do you agree?

Star Trek 3 is dues on July 8th 2016.
