It looks like Star Trek 4 is in serious jeopardy…
Word is that while stars Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho are all pretty much locked in, the two big names in the new movie, Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth as James T Kirk and his dad, respectively, are out.
“The two actors were in negotiations to star in Star Trek 4, but sources say that talks between the two actors and the companies making the new installment, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media, have fallen apart, with both sides walking away from the table.”
Fans may recall that in the beginning of the new Star Trek movie franchise Chris Hemsworth played Kirk’s father who died the day he was born. Well, the story in the fourth installment was to see Kirk, though timetravel shenanigans, meet up with his dad and go on a mission together.
Word is the studio is tight to budget and the two star, who are pretty big names in Hollywood now, are holding out for bigger pay checks. The root of all evil, huh?
What happens next is anyone’s call… recast? Give the actors what they want… make Star Trek: The Quest for Kirk? Who knows.
The fact is that both Paramount and Skydance still see the movie as a big priority.
We’ll keep you posted.
