Remember before Rogue One came out we pointed out The Ghost, the ship from Star Wars Rebels? There it is above, look…

Well, it looks like Rogue One and Rebels are going to become much more linked over the next while…

First up, in case you missed him, here’s Chopper, Rebels’ droid, in the movie:

Oh and by the way, here’s the Ghost on Yavin… just think, in A New Hope, all those years ago, The Ghost was nearby!

In addition to all this, we also reported that Rogue One (and Clone Wars) character Saw Gerrera was set for Rebels too (here)… and now we have more details on his appearance.

Saw will be voiced in the movie by Forest Whitaker! Yes, the actor who portrayed him in the movie, will also portray him on the small screen. How awesome is that?!

Here’s the announcement video for his appearance in Rebels:

We also heard in Rogue One in the Yavin base and announcement over the base of: “General Syndulla, please report.”

Now, Rebels fans will know that this is a nod to Hera, pilot of The Ghost, however some thought it may not really be her, but perhaps someone else, namely her father. But now Rebels Showrunner Dave Filoni has confirmed that it is definitely your favourite animated pilot: “I can clarify that’s absolutely Hera being paged, not her dad. The movie gives that away, but I would rather have all the [references] be right. Hera will eventually become a general in the Rebel Alliance.”

So what does this mean? Well, Rebels is based three years before Rogue One, so we know that Hera and her ship will survive the next three years but do we know the rest of the crew is alive?

Something struck me during the movie, especially since there WAS so many nods to Rebels… when Mon Mothma asked Bail Organa to reach out to Obi-Wan, it was basically a last hope – which doesn’t make sense if Ezra and Kanan are int he rebellion still.

r maybe I’m over reaching… but it seemed a little obvious to me.

But, speaking of the time between Rogue One and Rebels, Filoni hinted that we may see the events of Rogue One through the eyes of the crew of The Ghost, particularly the battle over Scarif: “I already have some theories about the story behind it,” Filoni said.

“I can imagine doing that entire battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”

We want to see that too… and we really want to low who’s on that ship at that point.

Do you agree?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
