Suicide Squad Movie To Use “More Practical” Special Effects?

Whether you’d like to admit it or not, visual effects are part of the reason superhero movies look good. Look no further than the Thor movies, Man of Steel, or Guardians of the Galaxy to prove that.

However, there are movies that are more suited to practical effects, like the original Captain America movie, or the The Dark Knight Trilogy. No doubt they used VFX  and CGI, but they probably had a LOT more practical effects.

The Suicide Squad movie seems to be following the later route, as pics from director David Ayers via his Twitter account shows a Squib device that will show both fire and explosion without CGI or particle effects. Also remember that Ayers showed off a flamethrower (a fully functioning one) a few weeks ago as well.

If this is true (and personally, I hope it will), this will provide a true gritty realism that sometimes gets lost in these movies. And like Batman, it’s characters don’t all have superpowers or abilities.

Suicide Squad hit theaters August 5, 2016.
