Suicide Squad sequel casts its Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher

If you thought the first Suicide Squad movie had ‘out there’ characters, James Gunn’s sequel – yeah, I’m calling it a sequel – is looking to move the bar even weirder.

Ant-man and The Dark Knight star David Dastmalchian  has signed on to play Polk-Dot Man.

Dastmalchian joins Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis for the DC movie being written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn.

Adding to this, we are hearing that newcomer Portuguese actress Daniela Melchior will play Ratcatcher in the movie.

Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher join a roster of new characters including King Shark and Peacemaker (rumoured to be played by John Cena).

Polka-Dot Man in the comics is “Abner Krill was a low-level crook who tried to make a name for himself with spot-themed crimes and a costume that included some amazing gimmicks, such as spots that transformed into buzzsaws and flying saucers on command. Gunn has shown an affinity for pretty obscure comic characters — Polka-Dot Man has appeared less than a dozen times since his creation — and the character is said to lean into his embarrassment of his “lame” abilities.”

Ratcatcher is primarily a Batman villain in the comics and is a criminal called Otis Flannegan who wears a gas mask and carries a stick with which he can control hordes of rats who he uses to take over the city, rob banks etc. But here Ratcatcher is female so we’re guessing maybe Flannegan’s daughter or perhaps in the movie universe Ratcatcher just happens to be female. We’ll find out soon enough.

Dastmalchian has also starred in Blade Runner 2049 and Prisoners and we hope that he has a substantial role in the movie as he tends to be a glorious bit-part actor… basically we hope he’s not this movie’s Slipknot.

What say you all? Let us know your thoughts.

The Suicide Squad is set to open Aug. 5, 2021.
