While there was a lot of news last year about David S Goyer’s Krypton TV series, it all died down around Halloween.

But now it seems the series, unlike the planet itself, is alive and well.

Krypton will be a Superman origin tale and is about to go to pilot at Syfy.

From Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. The drama follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Superhero ever known.

Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Stargate SG-1) has been added to the names as executive producer and showrunner with Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders, Sherlock) directing.

The pilot was written by Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) and was conceived by him and David Goyer.

While it’s been rumoured in the past that this series will be set in the DC Cinematic Universe, we reckon it’s unlikely it will tie in to the movie stories or the CW shows.

But we could be wrong.

Thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
