Taika Waititi developing a Star Wars movie?

January 18th, 2020 by Marc Comments

News from the galaxy far, far away as it seems Disney want Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi to develop a Star Wars movie.

Develop likely means write and/or direct as he did with Thor Ragnarok.

Is this related to the Star Wars movie being developed my Marvel’s Kevin Feige? Who knows… at this stage there’s no real details to reveal beyond his name being in the ring.

Waititi is the man of the moment with the superb Jojo Rabbit currently destined for possible Oscar glory and having directed an episode of Disney+ hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian (as well as voicing droid IG-11).

Personally, while I already have Jojo Rabbit as potentially my movie of 2020 (I know it’s early, but it adored that movie) and liked his work on The Mandalorian, I really don’t want him going near Star Wars as I hated his take on Thor in Ragnarok (I like the movie, but it isn’t Thor), so I fear that if he was given creative control we’d have something fun but not Star Wars.

Waititi is also attached to Akira as well as the next Thor movie so even if this were a thing, it would likely be a while down the line

My choice for Star Wars on the big screen would be The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni, just not Waititi, sadly.

Am I wrong? Let me know in the usual ways.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
