Taika Waititi talks how crazy Thor: Love and Thunder will be

April 10th, 2020 by Marc Comments

So, for those of you who just didn’t think Thor: Ragnorak was mental enough, writer director Taika Waititi promises you haven’t seen anything yet.

Taking to Instagram (below), Waititi dropped some new details about the upcoming fourth movie in the Thor corner of the MCU: Thor: Love and Thunder.

We know the movie is likely to feature all or some of the Guardians of the Galaxy team and will see Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will pick up the hammer to become the god of thunder.

“It’s so over the top now in the very best way. It makes Ragnarok seem like a really run of the mill, very safe film,” He said.

“This new film feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what should be in a movie and just said yes to everything.”

Em, I honestly don’t know what to make of that 10-year-olds comment and I’d be a liar if it didn’t worry me somewhat.

On the character Waititi plays himself, Korg, he had this to say:  “We do touch on Korg’s — how should I say it? — culture. Where he’s from…a few of the cultural specificities of Kronans…if you look in the comics there’s some stuff about how they procreate”

Because that’s the thing I was wondering the most about the alien rock monster.

On the return of ‘fat Thor’ from Avengers: Endgame, it seems that we may see Thor back in his superheroic form rather than his dad-bod form with Waititi saying “it has been done”.

He also said that no, sadly, no Silver Surfer cameo and he refused to comment on Christian Bale’s villain role or if we’d see Loki return.

Just for Clarity, I’m a big fan of Waititi – Jojo Rabbit is likely my favourite movie of the year – and while i did enjoy Ragnarok as a standalone movie, I really didn’t think it worked as a chapter in the MCU, especially as the one that led us into Avengers: Infinity War… just watch the jarring tonal change as Ragnarok ends and Infinity War begins.

But that said, I have high hopes for this new Thor instalment… I just hope it doesn’t get too silly. But hey, maybe that’s just me.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on February 18th, 2022.
