So we ran a story earlier today reporting that Alfre Woodard would be in both Luke Cage and Captain America: Civil War (here).

And we speculated that it would be a cool move and indicated that the divide between the MCU’s big screen and small screen might be growing smaller with a directly crossover character.

We knew that Woodard was playing Mariah Dillard, a New York Politician who is rumoured to become Luke Cage’s enemy Black Mariah in the Netflix show and – understandably – we figured she would be the same character in Civil War.

Seems not.

According to Screen Crush she will play a small, different role in the movie.

She will be the a the mother of an American citizen who perished during Ultron’s attempted destruction of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Through her blaming of Tony Stark and the Avengers, she plays a part in him deciding things must change.

So, the same actress in two pretty major Marvel roles within a few months of each other? It seems it isn’t all as connected as Marvel would lead us to believe…

What do you guys make of this?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
