The Birds of Prey movie, featuring Harley Quinn, signs on female director

April 17th, 2018 by Marc Comments

It was almost a year ago that we first reported that a Birds of Prey movie set around Harley Quinn was looking likely at the DC movie stable (here).

And now it may have its director.

The movie, as we reported ages ago, will be written by Christina Hodson who wrote the Bumblee (the Transformer, not the DC hero) movie and the still in production Batgirl movie, and will star Margot Robbie as Quinn and will feature a selection of DC female heroes and villains and now Cathy Yan, director of Sundance entry, Dead Pigs, will helm.

She will join Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman and its sequel as well as Ava DuVernay who is working on the New Gods movie as the third female director in the DC/Warners Universe.

It’s likely, we’d image, that the Birds of Prey movie will introduce Batgirl before her still-in-production standalone movie will happen. It looks like the DCEU is continuing to grow with Gotham City the centre of the universe.

Quinn is also likely to appear in Gavin O’Connor’s Suicide Squad sequel both of which could begin filming before the year is out.

Harley ain’t going anywhere… pudding’.
