Robery Schwentke, director of The Divergent Series: Insurgent and The Divergent Series: Allegiant, is said to be leaving the series before completing the final film Divergent: Ascendant.
Schwentke’s departure is reported be because “the director needed a break, after Insurgent and Allegiant, back to back.” (didn’t we all?).
His relationship with Lionsgate is also apparently still good.
The Divergent series started with the 2014 film Divergent, directed by Neil Burger, and continued last year with Insurgent and this year with Allegiant, directed by Schwentke. The films have not done well in the box office or with the critics so it’s very surprising they have got this far. The release date for Ascendant is June 2017, a tall order to fill if they don’t find a replacement soon.
In a slightly ironic twist, the new posters are here for The Divergent Series: Allegiant, arriving in theaters March 18.
