With the news earlier this week that Kiersey Clemons, who will finally be seen this Thursday night in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, has been cast as Iris West in the upcoming Flash movie, it seems we have some bad – and good – news along similar lines.
The Flash movie is expected to (at least loosely) embrace the Flashpoint storyline which sees Barry Allen/The Flash, played by Ezra Miller, realising he has the ability to use the Speedforce to go back in time, something he uses to go back and save the life of his murdered mother. But, of course, time travel being what it is, this leads to ramifications throughout time and reality.
We now know that Spanish actress Maribel Verdu (above) has been cast in that pivotal role of Nora Allen… after all, we know how important mothers are to DC heroes.
The actress is probably best known for her performances in Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mama Tambien and Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth and carries with her serious gravitas which leads me to believe this will be more than a cameo for the character.
But at the same time as he gains mother, he is losing his dad.
Star Billy Cruddup, left, who played Henry Allen in Justice League – and will also be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League this week – has had to step down from the role due to scheduling conflicts.
The actor is starring in Apple TV’s second season of The Morning Show and the schedule is believed to be largely down to that damned virus which has had knock-on effects on numerous productions.
It was originally thought that Henry Allen would not be appearing in the movie, however, it has since been confirmed that Cruddup will be recast (below).
UPDATED: It has been revealed that Office Space and The Conjuring actor Ron Livingston will play Henry in the movie and young actor Ian Loh will play young Barry Allen with Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson and internet personality Rudy Mancuso also joining the cast in unknown roles.
Ezra Miller will be returning as Barry Allen/The Flash and he will be joined by both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as different versions of Batman/Bruce Wayne (I still can’t believe I’m writing that!). The movie is being directed by IT’s Andy Muschietti with a script from Christina Hodson.
The Flash is scheduled to open on November 4th, 2022.
Because some of you demanded an answer (and I didn’t make clear in the article)… the part of Barry Allen’s father will be recast. It was not written out. https://t.co/tryqaC3768
