The Flash sequel is already written and, should it happen, Andy Muschietti wants Ezra Miller back

June 4th, 2023 by Marc Comments

With The Flash now less than two weeks away and many wild rumours circulating about surprises, cameos and more, we’re already starting to look to the future… what, should this movie do well (and it’s tracking to do just that) comes next for Flash in the DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran?

Well, we all know – and I’m not getting into it – that star Ezra Miller, who plays Flash/Barry Allen in the movie – has had plenty of controversies, accusations and weird leaked videos thrown at him over the last year or two and, as a resuat least in part lt, he will be doing minimal, if any, press for the movie and it might also be argued that that is why the previews have largely focused on Micheal Keaton’s triumphant return as Batman but there’s still the question of what next?

We know that Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are being replaced by new actors in the DC movies after this year’s movies release and we’re still unsure what will happen with Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot but right now, the question is, given how Miller has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, will he be replaced?

In a recent interview, director Andy Muschietti was asked if he saw Miller returning to the role after this movie, to which he replied: “If [a sequel] happens? Yes.

SPOILERS: The Flash director just revealed a massive cameo that is going to blow fans’ minds!

“I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. It feels like a character that was made for them.”

Doesn’t sound like they’re looking rid of him. But is a sequel likely?

A new report, ahead of The Flash’s release in a fortnight, states that Warner Bros already has a finished script from Aquaman scribe David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick ready to go, should a second movie move into he spotlight; not only that, the script apparently has Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, both of whom are getting rave reviews from early looks at the first movie, coming back.

Very interesting, although, it is well known that, at one stage Keaton’s Batman was set to take centre stage in the DCEU, replacing Affleck and acting as a Samuel L  Jackson/Nick Fury type role, recruiting and forming the new Justice League and beyond. In fact, we have learned that he was a big part of the now-scrapped Batgirl movie, was set to appear in Blue Beetle and Aquaman and then it was planned to have him star in a Batman Beyond movie, setting up a younger Batman, making sense as Keaton is still in amazing shape but is too old to be the Batman of this story, with a new younger team of heroes. However, we now know, this was all scrapped and The Flash is likely planned as Keaton’s only return to the role, at least for now.

Keaton-led Batman Beyond movie was coming but has been put on hold!

Honestly, I was excited to have Keaton in the DCEU moving forward and eventually handing the cape and cowl over to a new Batman in the movies, I thought it could work and even made sense in a multiversal sort of way. But alas, it looks like it’s not to be.

So, would you like to see Miller return for The Flash 2? Or are you hoping a new actor steps up to replace him?

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.

That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram

“The Flash” ensemble also includes rising star Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon (“Bullet Train,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), Ron Livingston (“Loudermilk,” “The Conjuring”), Maribel Verdú (“Elite,” “Y tu mamá también”), Kiersey Clemons (“Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Sweetheart”), Antje Traue (“King of Ravens,” “Man of Steel”) and Michael Keaton (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Batman”).

The Flash arrives in the US on June 16th and in Europe/UK on June 14th.
