The Last Airbender movie no longer set for cinemas but adds impressive voice cast

Happy and sad news for the upcoming The Last Airbender movie, as it’s been downgraded to a streaming release but also adds an admirable range of voice talent.

Expected to hit cinemas in October 2026, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will now instead be relegated to premiere on Paramount+ as the new owners have said that the streamer will now exclusively be home to all content from Avatar Studios in the future, including the highly anticipated new series Avatar: Seven Havens

The upcoming feature, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender (working title, apparently), will bypass a theatrical debut in October 2026 and will instead premiere on Paramount+ as the streamer becomes the exclusive home of all animated content from Avatar Studios, including the highly anticipated new series, Avatar: Seven Havens, which picks up after Nickelodeon’s previous shows Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

However, on the plus side, Legend of Aang has enlisted some serious talent to lend their voices to the show, including Ke Huy Quan, Dave Bautista, Steven Yuen, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Peta Sergeant, Freida Pinto, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan and Román Zaragoza.

Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+, spoke about the continuation of the now over 20-year-old series: “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven Havens represent the next evolution of storytelling from Avatar Studios — bringing together remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera to deliver the epic adventures and emotional depth fans have come to expect.

“These additions, alongside The Legend of Korra and the original series, solidify Paramount+ as the destination for the animated Avatar Universe.”

The current official logline for the movie reads: The world’s last Airbender, Aang, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.

Big updates on Paramount+’s Avatar: The Last Airbender movies, shows and Netflix’s live-action reboot

As for the Seven Havens series: Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, Seven Havens follows a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.

The series will consist of 26 half-hour episodes split, like the previous Airbender shows, into two books, each containing 13 episodes.

Netflix is currently airing Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action series with season 2 coming in 2026, and there was an M Night Shyamalan live-action movie in 2010, but the less said about that, the better

I’m a big fan of the Avatar shows ever since first watching Aang and his friends’ adventures in 2005, so I am really excited to see these… but man, I was looking forward to seeing this story on the big screen too.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all…
