SDCC 2022: New details on the first Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movie revealed

July 23rd, 2022 by Marc Comments

We have new details on the first Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movie from Paramount and Nickelodeon thanks to SDCC 2022.

While we haven’t had a look at the animation or even release date, we know the movie will appear in 2024, will release in cinemas and will feature airbender Aang and the team as young adults, a so far untouched period in the story,

Creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko previously said they are “well on their way” in the development of new movies and shows set in the Avatar and Kora universe as revealed by Brian Robbins, president and CEO of Nickelodeon and chief content officer of kids and family for Paramount+.

“One of the other big projects that we’re working on, on the theatrical front is Avatar. We signed a deal to bring the original creators of Avatar back into the studios. They started Avatar Studios, and they’re well on their way in development on a series of CG films and a new Avatar series,” Robbins said.

There was no further comment on the CGI aspect so we’re still not sure how the series will look but we hope that it looks like the original series, in the art above.

Are you an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan? Let us know what you hope to see when the gang hit our screens in 2024.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
