“Something good, for goodness sake, woooooooooooooah… somebody’s coming!”
At SDCC at the weekend Ivan Reitman dropped details on the future of the Ghsotbusters franchise including (here) plans for a new animated movie AND another live-action one too.
But in there he was speak about the possibility of bringing back the character of Egon Spengler AKA the late Harold Ramis and he replied: “It’s possible. … It’s something we’re thinking of.”
From our understanding, Reitman isn’t planning on building a movie around Ramis or having him as a ghost but rather in perhaps some sort of flashback in the movie (he really wants to bring together the universe of the original movies as well as the 201 reboot).
But now Ramis’ daughter, Violet Ramis Stiel, has been talking about the possibility of her dad appearing in a new movie: “It’s bizarre. Personally, for me, it is hard to imagine that people would accept it, but who knows. The technology now is amazing.”
Reitman mentioned Rogue One in his comments, presumably in reference to Peter Cushing returning and Grand Moff Tarkin, and the fandom is reacting in mixed ways with everything from ‘Yes!’ to ‘Nooooooo!’ and all in -between.
“I try to think what would he have thought,” Ramis Steil adds, “If it’s great and it works, then good. And if there is a problem, then obviously no.”
So only do it if it’s great? We can say no fairer than that…
