The Mummy 3 gets new official title…

The fourth – officially the third as 2008’s Tomb of the Emperor Dragon is no longer canon – Mummy movie is now in production and has an official title that harkens back to The Evil Dead.

Yes, the new Mummy movie will be called The Mummy: Book of the Dead and it will see Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return as Rick and Evie O’Connell and they’re bringing original stars John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr along for the ride.

Tidbit:

Fraser and Weisz have been photographed on set and are looking great – I just pray, as do many other fans, that this movie doesn’t follow the recent dour trend of making our heroes miserable and divorced. We want our heroes together, still in love and fighting evil. That’s how heroes should be treated.

The new movie will be directed by Ready or Not and Scream VI’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett aka Radio Silence; speaking back in April, Gillett said of the story: “It’s romantic, and it’s scary, and it takes some real chances. There’s a lot of risk in it, but it’s big and swashbuckling. It just has all of those things. And I think, you know, just in our conversations with both Brendan and Rachel, I think that it really does scratch that same itch for them, I think that they really feel strongly that it’s a return to form in so many ways.”

The first movie in the series arrived in 1999 and made a true movie star out of Brendan Fraser and spawned a whole universe of movies, including the sequel in 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, as well as 2002 spin-off The Scorpion King starring Dwayne Johnson, and then there were several direct-to-video sequels.

This is one of next year’s most anticipated movies and the hype officially has started.

In one year, The Mummy: Book of the Dead opens. In theaters October 15, 2027.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
