UPDATED: Shatner and Orci comment! Kirk’s final frontier, one last time?

September 24th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

If rumours from Bad Ass Digest, about Roberto Orci’s script are anything to go by, Star Trek fans could be in for a treat with the forthcoming Star Trek 3 film.

Roberto Orci, who is co-writing and directing the sequel to JJ Abrams two previous Star Trek films, has been desperate to reunite Shatner with the franchise, and has added a scene in which Shatner and Leonard Nimoy appear together as Kirk and Spock.

Shatner had a cameo written into the first Trek reboot, but it was cut before filming began.

If this does happen it would be the first time the two have appeared together in canon since 1991’s Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country.

Star Trek 3 won’t begin filming for another six months, and is expected to be released in 2016, so while there is still a long way to go it would be great to see Shatner boldly go and wear the uniform one last time.

UPDATE:

Trekmovie have more details on the above rumour; they are reporting that Orci commented on the rumour when the site contacted him last night: “Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”

Then, a short time later, Shatner (@WilliamShatner) himself Tweeted:

So we guess that, like in JJ Abrams first Trek movie, nothing is confirmed until you see it onscreen.
