It looks like the next James Bond movie is going to be an epic, with the news that Dune and Blade Runner 2049’s Denis Villeneuve has signed on to direct the next outing of the world’s greatest MI5 agent.
The announcement was made by Amazon MGM Studios and the movie will be produced by Tanya Lapointe, Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,” Villeneuve said.

Hinting at a big future still to come, Villeneuve said: “I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.”
This certainly seems to be confirming the rumours of a much younger Bond this time out, with it looking like the studio is planning on a Bond who will be around for a long time.
Villeneuve was one of five directors who were in the running/had pitched to direct the next James Bond with Edward Berger, Edgar Wright, Jonathan Nolan, and Paul King all in the running – I would, personally, love to see what Edgar Wright could do with 007. However, despite this talented pool, is seems that Children Of Men’s Alfonso Cuarón was the first choice for the gig but dropped out.

Going with the younger aspect of the character, word is that the new Bond will be under the age of 30 with Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) topping the list.
Villeneuve is currently prepping his third Dune movie, Dune: Messiah, which is set for a Christmas 2026 release, so it’s likely he’ll be stepping into MI5’s headquarters immediately after that. It’s worth noting that he is only signed on for one 007 outing and won’t have final cut on the movie.
So, there you have it. No denying that Villeneuve is a great choice to helm, though i don’t see Elordi, Holland or Dickinson as Bond, but hey, what do I know?
Either way, I’m excited for the next James Bond.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanne hear ’em all!
