Warcraft producer says it will break the videogame to movie curse

May 15th, 2014 by Marc Comments

We loved – really loved – Moon and Source Code from director Duncan Jones, so the idea of him handling something as massive and, let’s be honest, so far unfilmable, as Warcraft has us excited. Even those of us who don’t game.

Godzilla and Warcraft Producer Thomas Tull spoke with IGN about the project and seems very excited about it:  “We’re very aware of the fact that in the mythology of Warcraft, there are two tribes – two big things to follow. We think you’re going to get a chance to look at both.”

On Duncan Jones’ involvement, he seems optimistic that the videogame to movie curse can be lifted: “Doing a videogame movie has not really been done well… bringing a filmmaker like Duncan on board to distill that and bring the incredible cast on board that he was able to get… we hope that when you see the first trailer for it, you’re going to say ‘OK, this is not what I was expecting.’ He’s an incredibly exciting filmmaker.”

You can expect footage to appear at SDCC later this year and Warcraft will hit screens in March, 2016.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
