The Legend of Tarzan teaser has dropped online! From David Yates (director of the last four Harry Potter films), the new take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ jungle hero stars Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, Battleship) in the title role alongside a stellar cast that also includes Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou.

The film begins years after the man once as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash, write Squareeyed.

Tarzan made his first appearance in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes. The jungle hero would go to be the focus of an additional 23 novels by the author. In the century since the character’s inception, Tarzan has been adapted into just about every medium, including dozens of different feature iterations.

Yates, meanwhile, has himself already returned to J.K. Rowling‘s Wizarding World. He’s currently directing the upcoming spinoff series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Look for that film just a few months after The Legend of Tarzan. The jungle hits theatres July 1, 2016 with Beasts following on November 18, 2018.
