Bill Murray, star of the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, appeared – in a panda mask – on the Ellen Show on Thursday night and they talked briefly about the upcoming third movie in the trilogy.
In the interview Murray says that, yes, most of the cast are back but they’re missing two very talented and valued members of the cast.
The first is Rick Moranis who will not be returning as Louis Tully, the accountant/solicitor who keeps falling in with the boys in grey when things get out of hand.
The second is the fourth Ghostbuster himself, Harold Ramis, as Egon Spengler. Ramis died in February 2014 but Murray assures us his presence will be a big part of the movie: “They’re greatly missed for so many reason reasons. They were so much a part of the creation of it and the fun of it. Harold is featured in the story of the movie.”
We have known for a while that the movie will take place in the retirement home of Egon in the movie and that the principal cast are most likely his estranged family who return to his home after his death.
But it’s exciting to hear that, while gone, Egon – and Ramis – will still be essential parts of the new movie’s mythology.
Because of that damned virus Ghostbusters: Afterlife was pushed back to March 19th, 2021. But we know we’ll be there first night and I know you all will too.
From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.
