September 8th, 2018 by Marc Comments

With Solo: A Star Wars Story set for home release later this month we are getting loads of new clips and behind the scenes stuff.

A lot of it is focusing on the return of Ray Park as Darth Maul or, more accurately, Maul in the movie.

Firstly we got these new images of the actor in costume:

On his return the role, Park described the moment he was asked to come back to the Star Wars fold: “I got the phone call from Lynne Hale from Lucasfilm. And it was really nice of her, because she said to me ‘Ray, we’re just calling to see if you would like to do it.’ And I went [inhales slowly] ‘Yeah. Do you want me on the plane now?'”

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

In related news, while we have heard before that Maul was a last minute decision as there was a few different ideas about who would be ‘the boss’, the voice of Maul, Sam Witwer, says that no, it was always meant to be Maul and the movie itself has plenty of nods and easter eggs to tell you as much: “I will tell you that [Jon or Lawrence] Kasdan told me that this was always the plan. That’s what he told me. So I don’t mean to be putting out any information that isn’t consistent with anything else, but I was told, ‘Hey, there’s red Mandalorian armor on that set for a reason.’ Crimson Dawn! Crimson Dawn for a reason.

“You know, like all of these little hints. There’s I believe an old, Sith-looking hologram among Dryden Vos’ collection, and all manner of little, nod-of-the-head [things] just nudging you towards who’s in control of this criminal empire. And the way that he explained it to me was, ‘Look, we were telling a story about a criminal empire.

“You don’t necessarily have a lot of screen time to do that in a movie, you could only give sort of a thumbnail, so why not use the criminal empire that had already been established in many, many episodes of The Clone Wars that Maul established? Why not use that? That makes sense,” he added

Now for all the fun scenes and clips: Firstly, we get this deleted scene featuring Han and Q’ira on the run on Corellia:

Next up we get three scenes from the movie released for its upcoming home release:

Han and Chewbacca:

The Train Heist:

Darth Maul:

And here’s a new trailer for the home release:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
