WATCH First images and video of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker appear online

September 17th, 2018 by Marc Comments

So the Joker movie is currently filming and we have our first few images and a video from the set as Joaquin Phoenix gets ready to play comics’ most famous bad guy in a movie unrelated to the rest of the DC Universe.

In related note, as we reported sometime ago, the character who becomes Joker is called Arthur. That’s A Fleck. As in… Affleck. so that’s a little meta.

The movie will be directed and co-wrote by Todd Phillips along with Scott Silver and is described as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The movie is touted as being unlike any comicbook movie you’ve seen before with a low budget of $55 million range it is “meant to be darker and more experimental in tone and content which is described as being akin to a crime drama.”

Other rumours say the Joker will be – pre-transformation – a heavy drugs user and during one of his drug rages he will crack, becoming the insane Harlequin of Hate. And, apparently, the white face of the character will be cocaine on his face.

Joker opens on October 4th, 2019

Here’s the first official image from the movie, released by director Todd Phillips and it’s clear that Phoenix has dropped a lot of weight for the role. Will he make a good Joker?

Let us know your thoughts.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
