The big day is here tomorrow and to celebrate, Oliver is bringing out the big guns as he video reviews a movie that repulsed – and excited – an entire generation of movie fans…

The Fly (1986)

David Cronenberg, not well known for producing mainstream movies, received his biggest hit to date with The Fly in 1986. Inspired by the original short story published in 1957 and borrowing elements from the 1958 classic starring David Hedison, the movie is fondly remembered for its heart-breaking story of lovers Seth Brundle, played Jeff Goldblum, and Veronica, played by Gena Davis, and of course the incredibly gruesome make-up effects. The make up work shocked a lot of people, including myself as a kid, and is something that will stick in your mind after you’ve watched it.

Let’s have a look back at this classic and see why it still remains a favourite with horror fans!
