The real Star Wars fans on this site – the ones who have been around for a long time – will know that Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker in the sage, has always had a pure love for Star Wars.
He was the fan’s dream, attending events, knowing the lore and always flying the flag for the story that made him the star he is today.
But those fans will also know that after the release of The Force Awakens, in which Hamill had a painfully short cameo at the end, the actor was quite focal on not being pleased with the direction the movie went – saying that he always felt Luke Should have been more involved in the story and in the scene where his best friend, Han Solo, Harrison Ford, was killed Hamill felt that Luke should have been there to see the murder in the same way that the audience did,
And, honestly, we all agreed.
But he – and us – were not too worried as The Last Jedi was coming and we all hoped that it would give Luke the return he deserved, the return the fans waited 30 years for, and I think we all know how that turned out – I know, a lot of you liked the movie, I thought it was a horrendous mess – and by the time Luke was drinking milk from the nipple of a alien cow, I really didn’t want to see any more.
But more came, and Luke’s character was destroyed in the eyes of (many) fans.
And, it seems, in the eyes of Hamill himself.
In a new interview, the actor is asked if the new movie coming this year – The Rise of Skywalker – will be his last outing as Luke and – for the first time (that I can recall), the actor actually sounds grateful to be able to say that yes, he’s done after this one, replying: “I sure hope so.”
Watch the whole interview below and let me know if you can see what I see in an actor that is done with what was until lately, his life’s work.
